Stacee Jaxx (born Steven Jackson) is one of the main characters in the movie and the musical, Rock of Ages.

History[]

Stacee Jaxx is "the most unreliable man in the music industry" according to Lonny. He fell in love with a girl named Jenny Anderson as told by Constance Sack. On the night that he is to perform at the Bourbon Room, she interviews him for Rolling Stone and after she berates him on his disappointing choice, he falls in love with her and they sing (I Wanna Know What Love is) together. After that, he says an arrogant comment that causes her to leave. Before that time, Constance calls him a "Lonely Man with many regrets". He gives an amazing performance that night (Pour Some Sugar On Me) with his band as their final performance as Arsenal. After realizing that he has feelings for Constance, he calls the Rolling Stone asking for "Cinderella" but it was the editor that answered who tells him that Constance is covering his first solo gig at the Bourbon Room which he was unaware of. When he arrives at the Bourbon Room, he makes out with Constance and they have sex in the bathroom until he is bemused by Sherrie Christian and Drew Boley singing (Don't Stop Believing). At the end of the film, he is reunited with Arsenal and invites Drew and Sherrie on stage as the band "Von Colt" as they sing the song together. He takes a pause and looks offstage at Constance, who is pregnant with his child.

  • Tom Cruise based his portrayal of Stacee Jaxx on Axl Rose and Jim Morrison.
  • The idea of Stacee Jaxx's redemption in the film's ending was made by Cruise himself as he deemed the statutory rape element in the original musical "too extreme and very offending". According to screenwriter Justin Theroux, Cruise stated that Jaxx "needs to connect somewhere at the end of the movie. No matter what, you still need to have these motivating factors and you need to have this."

Differences in the film and musical[]

  • Stacee Jaxx becomes a washed-up has been fleeing to Uruguay to avoid statutory rape charges; his movie counterpart rejoins Arsenal and performs with them in Dodger Stadium, with Drew's band Wolfgang Von Colt as a support act. The latter element was used for censorship reasons and also to make the film more audience-friendly and avoid causing too much offense to viewers.
